Catheters, tubes and drainsThere is a huge number of catheters, tubes and drains that are available. If there is somewhere that a catheter or tube can be placed then a product will probably be available. The most commonly used products at Park Veterinary Hospital, Emergency Service are short-stay intravenous (I.V.) catheters used to provide intravenous access for delivery of fluids, blood or drugs, nasogastric (NG) or oesophageal (O) feeding tubes and urinary catheters. Understandably seeing lines going into and out of their pets can be distressing for owners however animals tolerate them extremely well and hardly ever appear upset by the experience. It should be remembered that they are all necessary so that the animal’s fluid balance and nutritional needs can be properly addressed or so that wounds can be correctly managed. |
